CincinnatiUSA Heart the Carew
Vertical for Lung Health

by iRhine

I
f you're looking for an alternative to exercise in winter, you might consider to participate in the Climb at the Carew event on February 26th.

Diane Barrick at the American Lung Association of Ohio adopted the idea for its extreme and creative event, climbing Cincinnati's highest and most prominent art deco building. "We've got a variety of participants, from 14 th years old to 73 years old had registered." She mentioned. Barrick mentioned that this year will be the first annual stair climbing at the Carew. For this first year, the American Lung Association of Ohio aimed to raise $50,000 with 500 climbing spaces. Prior to the event, all participants are encouraged to practice. Fortunately, as of last week, there were only 100 climbing spaces left.

Stair climbing has become one of the favorite events of the American Lung Association in the states and Canada. "Hustle Up the Hancock", the name of the event in Chicago, was started eight years ago. The event became so popular among the Chicagoans that the tickets were sold out in two days. This year is also the first year for the American Lung Association of Colorado organize an annual stair climb event. "Run the Register", the name of the event in Denver, will challenge the participants to climb 1,000 stairs of the Wells Fargo Center or commonly known as the "cash register building."

Climbing is also a good exercise that will improve heart health. If it becomes regular exercise, it will strengthens the hearth, resulting in more blood and oxygen flow throughout the body. And its aerobic exercise lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels, that are known to be major health risks for many Americans.

On their mission to prevent lung disease and promote lung health, fundraising event as this one will help to support their activities. One of the issues they are facing is the elimination of the E-check regulation that will increase air pollution problem. Last year, Cincinnati has 14 worst days in the summer that were hazardous for people with asthma. Their other activities are providing assistance for people to quit smoking, funding research, providing training in schools for children with asthma, and organizing camp for the children.
