Same Sex Marriage: A question of integrity, of bigotry

By proposing an amendment to ban gay marriages, the parties responsible have put the country in a position to set a precedent on an important issue, a precedent that will help define the times, define this generation.

The issue drives a sharp wedge between liberals and conservatives because it hits so close to home, clashing with so many Christians’ faith, yet deeply wounding civil progress.

Depending on how you interpret the Bible, many feel that God would be enraged if he knew that Vermont was harboring the union of sinners. No matter how open minded these people may be, same-sex marriage is always going to cause an adverse, guttural reaction in them. They will spit it out like bad milk.

Our Constitution suggests that is it dangerous to be letting one’s faith influence politics. If we bring God into the debate, we will no doubt be bringing many gods into the ring, bringing nonbelievers’ absence of God in as well.

But the question remains, what kind of culture are we? How does our generation sway? Are we progressive, or do we hold tight to tradition? There are certainly traditions in the past that were worth abandoning, such as allowing only white men to vote. But in that case, we weren’t battling with the word “sanctity.” That’s when everything gets fuzzy.

The sides have been clearly marked on these issues. Drawing on the multi-partisanship of the staff, QCF magazine brings an issue to the table and hopes to provide some insight on why the left and the right don’t agree on anything.

Ohio State Issue 1 on the November 2nd ballot passed, banning same- sex marriage. Does expanding the marriage threaten the integrity of marriage? Or is it a question of state sponsored bigotry… again. Christopher Blanton and Michael Meldon Jr. duke it out in November’s “the 3rd Person.”
