We Can Be Heroes; Cincy as a World City
Who do you look up to? Who are your heroes? -John U.
By Leslie Ghiz
I have three people that I admire greatly, one for personal reasons, one for professional reasons, and one for political reasons.

|
The first person, for personal reasons, is my father. In his short life of 49 years, he was able to touch the lives of so many others that I can only hope to affect a small portion of the number of people in my lifetime. He is also the person who taught me that if I was smart and good to others, I could go anywhere in life I wanted to, and that wasn't the norm for females when I was growing up. He suffered a very painful death from cancer with dignity and strength. Through this, he taught me to never give up and not to be afraid.
The second person is for professional reasons, Kathrine Graham. She was a woman raised in an era where you got a college degree to get married.
While she was very privileged, she was as sharp as a tack, and even when her father passed on the Washington Post to her husband and not her, was able to rise above it. She watched her father and husband and learned how to run one of the largest newspapers in the country. Her husband committed suicide, and she took over the Post. As the CEO of the Post, she faced Watergate, union strikes and threats from the most powerful people in the world, and she still prevailed. As a woman, she is an inspiration.

The third person is for political reasons, Karl Rove. What a political mind! I worked on the Bush campaign and I can tell you first-hand that the campaign machine was unbelievable. Down to the most minute of details, it was covered, and it was covered because of his thinking. I will carry the lessons I learned with me forever in my political life. That sort of knowledge is priceless.
Do you think the city of Cincinnati would ever have the ability and resources to become a world city?
-Kristen W.
I would like to hope Cincinnati could become a world city. However, there are a few roadblocks right now, namely, the financial state of Cincinnati.
Ability is always there, you just need the tenacity behind it to make it happen.
The make up of council is another concern. Until the members realize they need to work as a team to move the city forward, and not as individual interests, it won't happen.
Cincinnati has what it would take: a business core, waterfront access, professional teams and world-class restaurants. Over time I am optimistic that it can happen.
