Why is Cincinnati's Mainstreet not 'up-to-par'? What do you think? I work downtown so I may have a bias...What is your opinion?
By Leslie Ghiz
A very good question that is on the minds of many in Cincinnati. The short answer is the growing crime rate in City. It is very hard to develop an area like Main Street's club strip when shootings and car robberies are taking place all around it. Great strides are being made by the city to develop that area with renovated housing and new businesses. The thought is that when you have a greater population and foot traffic in the area, less crime will occur (safety in numbers). However, it's hard to get people to buy condos and start businesses, or for that matter patronize businesses, when the crime rate is high and the crimes are being committed right around the corner.
The long answer includes a number of other factors, including lack of funding, geographic placement, other entertainment options around the city, lack of strong businesses surrounding Main Street, lack of restaurants in that particular area, and proximity to where people live.
The number one priority of the city council right now should be decreasing crime in Cincinnati. Once crime decreases, I think people will be more willing to frequent Main Street pubs, clubs, restaurants and bars.
What is the collaborative agreement all about? What is George W. Bush proposing for medicare? What is Leslie’s favorite food or restaurant? What is her favorite sport? Who is her hero?
